Four people were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences in Amble after a tip-off by the public.

Officers targeted addresses on Newburgh Street, Ivy Street and Bede Street on Monday in an intelligence-led operation.

Quantities of cannabis and amphetamine were seized during the searches under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Two teenagers, aged 17 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis. Both have been bailed to attend a youth surgery.

A 42-year-old woman received a simple caution after being arrested on suspicion of possessing amphetamine with intent to supply.

A 29-year-old man arrested for possession of cannabis was also handed a simple caution.

Amble Neighbourhood Police Sergeant Neville Wharrier said: “These warrants were all about disrupting those involved in illegal drugs.

“We have seized an amount of drugs and made arrests.

“We hope this sends out a clear message that we will always act on information received to make our community safe from the harm that drugs cause.

“We rely on help from the community to provide us with information about illegal drug use and supply.

“Anyone concerned about drugs where they live is asked to contact us.”
