Time to send in your pictures for Gazette’s Sunflower Challenge

With seeds collected, planted and hopefully growing to dizzying heights, it’s now time to send in your sunflower pictures to take part in the Gazette’s green-fingered challenge.

Our annual competition started in spring when seeds were kindly given to the Gazette by the Alnwick in Bloom committee, ready for youngsters to plant at home.

And interest was so high that a second box of the Russian Giant variety had to be delivered.

Now we need you to send us a picture of you with your bloom, telling us how high it is, where it was grown and where you are from, as well as your age and contact telephone number, to see if you have grown the biggest one.

Once all the entries are in we will find the tallest ones and a judge will then go out and measure each of the blooms to see who has won.

The growers of the three biggest blooms will win a WH Smith voucher which will be presented at a special celebration at The Alnwick Garden in September.

You must be under 16 to enter the Sunflower Challenge.

Send your pictures and information, including a contact telephone number, to Sunflower Competition, Northumberland Gazette, 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, NE66 1PN.

You can also email them to helen.millichamp@jpress.co.uk or northumberland.gazette@jpress.co.uk

Entries must be received by the close of business on Friday, August 31.
