Two Swarland teenagers have raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Rebecca Marsden, 15 and Jessica McKenzie, 16, held a bagpack at Sainsbury’s in Alnwick and raised a whopping £1,135.50.

The cash will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and the Grafters Charity which helps children who have suffered from burn injuries.

The charities were chosen because Jessica’s mum, a specialist burns nurse at Newcastle RVI, set up Grafters and both girls have family members who have been affected by cancer.

The girls said: “We would like to say a huge thank-you to Sainsbury’s for giving us the great opportunity to raise money and awareness of the charities and a special thank-you to John who helped us a lot on the day.”

They also thanked Flowers by Julie who provided buckets to use. They also collected 1,035 ActiveKids vouchers which will be donated to the village first school.
