Teenager killed in scooter crash in north Northumberland

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was killed in a collision between a car and a scooter in north Northumberland last night.

The collision happened at 10.06pm (Friday, January 30) on North Road at the junction with Magdalene Drive in Berwick.

The 16-year-old rider of the scooter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are carrying out inquiries into the collision and asking any witnesses to come forward.

Motor Patrols Sergeant Jason Ryder said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the boy who died at this difficult time. It’s important we find out what happened and I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact us. We believe the boy was with another male on a scooter shortly before the collision and they had visited McDonald’s in Berwick. We’re keen to hear from anyone who saw them, whether in Mcdonald’s or the surrounding area.”

A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of careless/inconsiderate driving and has been released on police bail.
