AS the President Judith Arthur was entertaining the guest speaker for International Day, the Vice-President of Kirkley WI, Liz Shaw introduced Rose Stanley who gave a fascinating talk and demonstration on character figures.
This activity was started in Australia and USA is gradually being introduced to the UK.
Rose showed the first character dolls she made and then she explained how the bodies are created, the features added and the clothes applied.
In her vote of thanks Betty Renwick said she was impressed at the number of sewing skills which are used to make the fascinating figures. The competition for a rag doll was won by Mary Cairns.
At the Harvester’s meeting Kirkley won the competition for a corsage. June Walker was thanked for her prize-winning entry.
The December meeting is on Wednesday 14, at 12.30pm at Kirkley Hall. The January meeting is about healthy living and the competition is for a pretty cup and saucer.
