A variety of species were found off the Northumberland coast at Druridge Bay during an important fish survey, which was carried out by the Environment Agency, Northumberland Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (NIFCA) and Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

A NIFCA patrol boat and a beach seine – a net operated from the shore – was used for the study.

The team captured important data that might help protect nursery grounds for fish in the area and to help future projects.

Species found included sand eel, baby turbot, flounder, plaice, herring, sea trout, dab, cod, squid, sprat, pollock, weaver, pipefish, butterfish and viviparous blenny

Jon Green, of NIFCA, said: “This was an important piece of work. We will be continuing survey work in Druridge Bay and other areas in the future.”
