A yacht has been helped ashore after getting into difficulty about a mile off the Northumberland coast at Beadnell this evening.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses all-weather lifeboat RNLB Grace Darling at 6.08pm, after a call from a small yacht, with two people on board, struggling in choppy sea and swell. One crew member was seasick, and the yacht was having difficulty making way. The Seahouses Coastguard team was paged at 6.10pm to provide visual contact for Humber.

The yacht had tried to make for Newton Haven, but had to divert back to Seahouses because of the sea conditions. The lifeboat escorted it back into Seahouses, sheltering it from the rougher water. At Seahouses, the yacht and its crew were passed into the care of the local shore-based Coastguard officers.

The seasick crew member made a full recovery once safely ashore and both crew members thanked both the Coastguards and the lifeboat crew for their assistance, which had been greatly appreciated.
