Gazette photographer Jane Coltman took this spectacular shot at Amble this morning as flood warnings remain in place in north Northumberland.

Five areas in Northumberland have been issued with flood alerts in the face of persistent rain and high winds.

The stormy weather was predicted by the Met Office, which gave the county a yellow warning to be aware of spells of heavy rain and the potential for localised flooding. The Environment Agency has placed five amber flood alerts (flooding is possible, be prepared) in Northumberland.

There are currently 34 flood warnings in place and 173 flood alerts in place across England and Wales. There are no severe flood alerts.
