Tony and Anthony Legg formally launched Night Treks Ltd a fortnight ago, giving people the chance to spy on the secret world of nocturnal wildlife.

The pair, from North Shields, have already lined up a number of routes, including in Warkworth, Craster, Holystone and Felton/West Thirston.

They say they are the only company in the UK offering this type of walking tour.

Tony told the Gazette: “People can join us on a night-time adventure as we explore the Northumberland wilderness on our thermal-imaging walking tours.

“From a wood mouse scrambling through a log pile to a badger deep in the undergrowth, our scopes will detect them.

“Trekking lonely forest paths, discovering hidden gems like Lady’s Well at Holystone which are steeped in local folklore or rest next to meandering rivers and soak up the atmosphere; this is Northumberland at night.”

The Night Trek will start at a pre-arranged starting point where, after introductions and a safety talk, each participant will be issued with their own thermal imaging scope and head torch.

All the walks are roughly five miles long and, with regular breaks to use the scopes, will last three-to-four hours. Each route has been carefully selected and tested, ensuring the best chance to fully enjoy the experience.

The pair started the business after Tony was finding it harder to get work in ship building and the oil and gas sectors after many years, while Anthony was medically retired as a postman due to a shoulder injury.
