Spider spud would make a monster mash

WITH its creepy legs, bulging body and measuring several inches in length, it’s no surprise this beastie gave Marion Slight quite a start when she opened the cupboard.

But what at first glance looked like a giant spider turned out to be ... a tatty-rantula.

Husband James, of Bridge Street, Alnwick, believes the potato – which bears an uncanny resemblance to an arachnid – fell out of a bag and sprouted tendrils in the darkness.

“Marion went into the cupboard and there was this thing,” he said. “It gave her a bit of a fright – she doesn’t like spiders as it is, and this looks like a big one.

“I’ve never seen anything like it before.”
