Speed clampdown

EIGHTY motorists have been warned about speeding as part of a new police operation.

Alnwick’s Strategic Roads Policing Plan is targeting speeders in response to concerns from the public. And in just one week, 55 motorists in Alnwick and Amble and 25 in the rural areas were sent warning letters.

A further 10 received fixed-penalty notices and two were summonsed for driving offences.

Police are focusing on different locations in north Northumberland and will be moving around the county over the next few months.

Alnwick Neighbourhood Police Inspector Sue Peart said: “The majority of letters we are sending out are to people who live in the villages and towns they are speeding in. We are starting with warning letters but we will get tougher.”
