Snow causes treacherous driving in north Northumberland

Police are urging motorists to avoid the A68 in Carter Bar in Northumberland after bad weather has made driving conditions treacherous.

In the last few hours, the area has seen snow fall and temperatures plummet, leading to icy and dangerous conditions on the roads.

Officers have received a number of reports of vehicles getting stuck and are in the area to help motorists.

Local authority gritters are also in attendance and the road is passable with extreme care. The weather is expected to improve in the coming hours but officers are asking people to avoid using the road for the next few hours if possible.
