Appearances from superstar actors Sir Anthony Hopkins and Mark Wahlberg, flash cars and a helicopter – filming for the new Transformers movie is causing quite a stir in Alnwick.

Crews have descended on the town to capture scenes for Transformers: The Last Knight, and they are due to head to Bamburgh in the coming days. Meanwhile, two explosions were captured by a drone after numerous super cars from the film were seen driving near Kielder Water earlier in the week.

The crew has been seen going back and forth along the road from Alnwick Garden to Alnwick Castle, while cranes and lights have been set up pointing through the castle windows as filming has been taking place inside.

Flash cars were spotted on the streets of Alnwick and actors Wahlberg and Sir Anthony have been photographed by film fans.

Filming has certainly been the talk of the town and Gazette readers Adam Sparrow, Lee-Anne Milligan, Margaret Swordy and Ryan Grimson have also posted pictures on Facebook. Gabriel Brown has also uploaded numerous images, as well as shooting a short video of Sir Anthony.

The fifth instalment in the series, which is directed by Michael Bay and has Steven Spielberg as an executive producer, also filmed in London near Bank tube station, when a dramatic stunt saw a car hurled onto its side. The series, directed by Bay, has grossed over £2.79billion ($3.7billion) worldwide.
