Fliss Edmunds welcomed members and two visitors to the September meeting of Shilbottle WI.
We had manned a cakes and produce stall at the autumn fayre and donated the proceeds towards the upkeep of the Community Hall, which was looking good as a result of volunteers painting the small rooms.
We look forward to restarting the lunch group and walking club and participating in the county show at Cresswell House in October with entries for Anything in Bottle or Jar.
Names were taken for the Hotspur Group meeting, which will take place at the Costello Centre in October, and we answered the invitations from various local WIs.
Our darts and domino teams continue to make progress in the county competition and Linda Law has won the Judges’ Cup for her photo that was chosen for next year’s calendar.
The speaker Brian Burnie told us the fascinating background to his charity Daft as a Brush which provides cancer patient transport throughout the region.
He talked about the people that had influenced him in his life and how his fleet of vehicles and the band of volunteers assist patients at a very difficult period.
Our next meeting is on October 17 when we will have a talk from T Nicholson from Gregg’s Bakery.
