POLICE are reminding those with allotments, sheds and outbuildings to make sure they are secure this winter.
The advice comes after thieves tried to break into a pigeon loft in Lesbury last week.
Between 6pm on Tuesday, November 22, and 7am on Wednesday, November 23, thieves tried to brake into the loft at the Bilton allotments site. They were unable to gain access and fled empty-handed.
As winter approaches allotment owners may choose to lock up their properties for the next few months and it’s vital that they are secured, checked regularly and all items of high value are removed to somewhere safe over the winter period.
Members of the public are urged to report anyone seen hanging around allotment areas and looking suspicious to the police.
