George Laidler's headstone in France.

FORMER soldier David Eason is looking for any remaining descendants of a man who fell during the First World War.

Private George Laidler, who was a member of the 11th Hussars, died in action on March 25, 1918, and is buried at the Serre Road Cemetery in the Somme, France.

He was born in Goswick and lived in Beal. But his age and parentage are not recorded.

Mr Eason, a Royal Hussars Gulf War veteran from Leamington, has recently completed the regiment’s 1939-1947 Roll of Honour.

He is now trying to compile the names from 1914 to 1921, of which George Laidler is included.

Mr Eason would like to hear from anyone related to George or who can confirm if he is commemorated locally. He can be contacted on 07896 201176, email husrollho@yahoo.co.uk
