At the first meeting of the new president, Stuart Walton, Seahouses and District Rotary Club was given an exciting, well-illustrated account of life in Indonesia in the ’70s by Elaine Smith, a Rotarian from Alnwick.
Particularly interesting were the tales of Elaine’s involvement with rehabilitation of displaced orangutans who had been hunted, injured and traumatised.
Nowadays tourism is paramount and wildlife is dying off because of deforestation.
Lovely pictures and great stories inspired lots of interest and questions from the assembled Rotarians and guests over an excellent buffet meal in the Olde Ship.
