DESERT ISLAND DISCS: Past president Father Tony Owens and president elect Stuart Walton entertained fellow members and guests of Seahouses and District Rotary Club at the weekly meeting with their own version of Desert Island Discs.
Fr Tony chose the music which Stuart skilfully linked through Powerpoint to a brief account of his life. Starting with The Old House which he remembers being sung in his childhood home in Ireland, they went on to describe his calling to the church and through seminary to the North East of England with a wide range of musical choices, including Elvis, the Beatles, Mozart and Sting.
Fr Tony’s rotation round several parishes in the area was interrupted when he nearly died of meningitis. Following this, several years as chaplin at Shotley Bridge Hospital were some of the happiest.
There followed the usual excellent buffet in the wardroom at the Olde Ship.
