Sausages set for food fest

A newcomer to this year’s Alnwick Food Festival is set to produce a special Novelli sausage for the event.

Wark-based Northumberland Sausage Company is a new exhibitors at this year’s festival, which takes place on the weekend of September 22 and 23.

The opportunity to have a food stall at the event was welcomed by company owner Dr Claire Watson Laney.

“I’d heard and read all about the 2011 Alnwick Food Festival and we wanted to be part of this amazing event promoting locally-produced food,” she said. “Having Michelin-starred chef Jean-Christophe Novelli as last year’s celebrity guest certainly raised the event’s profile and has helped to further establish Alnwick as a major food event.”

And the company has also been given an opportunity to develop a product using a secret ‘chocolate’ sausage recipe, devised by the French chef.

Samples of the Novelli Wark-banger will also be available at the ticket-only Novelli Evening that is being hosted in the Northumberland Hall on the Saturday.

Food Festival Director Karen Larkin said: “We’re looking forward to having several new food producers attend this year’s event and welcome The Northumberland Sausage Company’s participation.

“Jean-Christophe’s chocolate sausage recipe is expected to create a lot of interest.”
