Rural areas under attack

RURAL Northumberland has again come under attack from farm thieves, with a spate of break-ins over the last few weeks.

During the night of December 8, entry was forced at a secure farm building at Longframlington and a red Honda 500cc TRX ATV and a red Yamaha 450cc ATV taken.

On December 11, thieves stole a Daihatsu Fourtrack and Ivor Williams trailer from a farm near Morpeth. Having loaded numerous items of tools and machinery, the vehicle was abandoned nearby. The trailer and tools are still missing.

A large quantity of lead flashing was also stolen from a farm building being renovated near Morpeth during the evening of December 13, while an orange Husqvarna chainsaw was stolen along with a safety helmet from a farm near Cornhill on the same day.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “We would urge anyone seeing suspicious activity or vehicles to report it immediately.”
