POLICE are warning pet owners to be careful after rumours that a vicious prank to harm animals was discovered in a north Northumberland park.
A shocking photograph recently appeared on social networking site Facebook showing pieces of food stuffed with nails and other sharp objects.
The sick image fuelled a flood of angry and disgusted comments on the site and there were rumours that the bait had been found in a park in Amble.
However, police and councillors have said they have heard nothing to confirm this.
Sue Peart, Alnwick Neighbourhood police Inspector, said: “We have had nothing reported to us at all but clearly this sounds absolutely horrific and it would be tragic for a pet owner.
“I would hate for anybody to be a victim of this.”
She said that police will investigate further and anyone with any information should contact police by calling 03456 043043.
Mayor of Amble, Coun Leslie Bilboe, and Amble town and county councillor Robert Arckless, said they have heard nothing to confirm that the rumours are true.
