A GROUP of rugby team-mates has raised more than £500 for charity in memory of Matthew Phillips.

Matthew Timmins and six friends from the Alnwick Colts Rugby Team walked 14 miles from Beadnell to Alnmouth along the coastal route in memory of the five-year-old.

At Matthew’s funeral, funds were raised for the Joseph Foote Foundation which is aiming to raise awareness of childhood brain cancer.

After that Matthew, 17, also from Shilbottle, who knew little Matthew and his family, decided he wanted to do something in the boy’s memory.

“Seven of us took part in the end and it took us three and a half hours to complete,” he said.

“It was hard work but also good fun and it is for a good cause.

“I’m really pleased with the amount we have raised so far and I’ve still got a few more to collect as well.”

Anyone wanting to donate to the cause can still do so on Matthew’s justgiving page at www.justgiving.com/matthew-timmins
