Jennifer Scott, vice president, led the November meeting of Roddam WI and welcomed everyone, including two visitors.
The minutes of the October meeting were read, agreed and signed and there were several matters arising.
We had received a thank-you card from last month’s speaker for the sum of £100 we raised by a tombola for the charity Reading for Africa.
There were reports from members for the activity day and scarecrow competition at Heighley Gate, and the darts and dominoes competitions.
We had not won either of the last two, but the darts especially was a close-run thing and we look forward to competing again next year.
Jennifer gave details of the forthcoming concert to raise funds to send two delegates from our group to the centenary annual meeting in 2015, and names were taken for our Christmas dinner to be held next month.
After the monthly notices were given, our speakers were two of our own members, Jenny Guthrie and Linda Witson, both talented craft workers, who showed us how to make various Christmas decorations. Then we were able to exercise our own crafting abilities with a hands-on session. Very enjoyable.
After supper the competition for a handmade Christmas card was judged. The winners were: 1 Ann Hume; 2 Shirley West; 3 Veronica Presland.
Our next meeting is on December 3, in the Cheviot Centre, Wooler, at 7pm and we are always very pleased to welcome new members or former members returning.
Our speaker is Margaret Smith who is well known to us. She will be making edible Christmas decorations.
