President Janet welcomed 26 members and two visitors to the December meeting of Roddam WI.
She read out a letter from the judge at Glendale Show highlighting the high standard of our winning entry at that event. She also passed on thanks from the Shoe Box Appeal organisers for our contributions and from Wooler First School for our help in collecting biscuit wrappers for re-cycling, for which they won a national award.
The school is also having a bake-off for Christmas biscuits and has asked us to provide two judges, as we did last time.
When the business of the evening was finished, our speakers were Steph and her lovely young lady chef, Ira, from the Milan Restaurant, who demonstrated the most amazing cheesecakes and provided samples for us to taste.
They were delicious and we all took a copy of the recipes with Christmas puds in mind.
The competition was for three fruit scones and was won by Mary Nelson with Ann Hume second and Margaret Atkinson third.
There will be no meeting in January, but it’s our annual pies, peas and puds in February.
The evening concluded with supper and the raffle.
