Roddam WI, April meeting

The president of Roddam WI welcomed members to the meeting on April 1, and asked everyone to stand and observe one minute’s silence in memory of Vinny Nesbit whose funeral had been held that day and who had been a loyal member of the WI for many years.

Following this, the minutes of the March meeting were read and signed.

We had received a thank you for our help from the organisers of the Doctors’ Health Awareness Day held recently which had been a great success and it was agreed to give a donation to the Doctors’ Fund to help to buy a demonstration defibrillator.

The monthly notices were given and there was information from national regarding the centenary annual meeting being held during the summer.

We had no speaker this month but a beetle drive instead which brought back memories to those who hadn’t played for many years and which gave rise to much hilarity. Competition was fierce and the winner on points was Margaret Atkinson with May Robson second and the booby prize went to Anne Hume.

The prize for the most beautiful beetle went to our president, Janet Laycock, for her beetle composed of hearts.

After supper, the raffle was drawn and the competition for a beetle in any medium was won by Caroline Cumming with Joan Rogerson second and Alfreda Hindmarsh third.
