The gasworks in the centre of Alnwick have been completed almost two weeks ahead of schedule.
In January, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) began work to replace 250 metres of ageing metal gas mains in Bondgate Within and Narrowgate with more durable plastic pipes.
The road closure on Narrowgate will be reopened by this evening and the team will leave the site as found. On Monday, road-sweepers will ensure the streets are returned to a clean and tidy condition.
Andrew Rodda, site manager for NGN, said: "We would like to apologise to local businesses and residents and other members of the public who may have been inconvenienced during our essential mains replacement gas works at Narrowgate, Alnwick, and thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout."
For further information about the project, contact NGN’s Customer Care team on 0800 040 7766, option 7, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
