The A697 has reopened this afternoon after a closure in north Northumberland to recover an overturned lorry.

A section between the Bridge of Aln and New Moor House crossroads was shut to allow for heavy-lifting equipment to be used to recover the wagon, which came off the road, near Thrunton, at 2.15am on Tuesday.

The road is now open, however, motorists are advised one lane on a small section near Learchild Farm, in Whittingham, is closed. Traffic flow is being managed by traffic lights.

Northumbria Police has thanked motorists for their patience during the road closure.
