A RALLYING call has been made by the Mayor of Amble, urging the community to throw its support behind plans for a Royal celebration in the town.
Discussions have begun about how Amble can celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year.
A meeting was held on Friday between councillors and representatives from a number of groups and organisations to thrash out initial ideas.
Others who couldn’t attend, including staff from local schools, have also expressed an interest.
And Coun Leslie Bilboe said: “The meeting was quite constructive.
“The enthusiasm is there.
“I want the whole town involved – the schools, churches, shops – as many people as possible.
“Hopefully it will be a major event in the town.”
The next meeting takes place on October 27 at 4.30pm in Amble Town Council’s meeting room at the Harbour Commissioner’s building.
