Schoolchildren have been rewarded for their efforts in Alnwick Civic Society’s 2013 Marjorie Deakin Essay Competition.

The title was If Pants Had Eyes. Duke’s Middle School pupil Joe Bennett took first prize, while Catherine Jackson (Lindisfarne Middle) and Callie Martin (St Paul’s Middle) were second and third respectively.

Abby Wilson (Duke’s Middle), Oscar Wilson (Lindisfarne Middle) and Lauren Vickers (St Paul’s) were highly commended.

Prizes of book tokens were donated by Barter Books.
