Launched this year, The Great British Spring Clean is a national clean-up weekend running from March 3 to 5.

Coun Ian Swithenbank, cabinet member for local services, said: "The spring clean is a great chance for people to work together to help improve their neighbourhoods. We are urging residents to spare just a couple of hours of their time on Friday and come out and get involved."

Litter remains a huge problem across the country, causing harm to the environment and wildlife, with councils in England having to spend more than £700million on street-cleaning services every year.

There are also a number of other neighbourhood clean-ups taking place across the county and the council will be also be supporting these by providing litter pickers, hi-vis vests, gloves and rubbish bags as well as picking up the refuse afterwards. For more information, contact [email protected]
