Residents of one of Alnwick’s biggest housing estates do not all have superfast broadband, despite a large rollout.
Many parts of Alnwick have now been upgraded to fibre broadband, benefitting from much faster speeds.
But in Allerburn Lea this is not the case. Because of the size of the estate, a second box needs to be installed to reach the whole area.
Residents claim that when they search online for fibre broadband many are told they cannot get it and in some cases they are told they can upgrade later, only to find that this is not the case.
One couple sought advice from the iNorthumberland programme, which confirmed they did have superfast broadband in their area so they persisted with their network provider.
This was when they were told a second box needed to be sited in the area.
A spokeswoman for BT said: “Plans to install a second fibre broadband street cabinet to provide further coverage of fibre broadband in the Allerburn Lea area of Alnwick are still in place and work should be completed this summer.
“Once completed, a further 380 premises will be able to access fibre broadband speeds of up to 80Mbps.”
