Name: David Lowe

Age: 46

Home town: Rothbury

Relay section: Morpeth

HAVING served the communities of Alnwick and Rothbury for six years as a district nurse, after 20 years as a mechanical engineer, David Lowe will be flying the flag for community nursing when he carries the Olympic Torch through Morpeth on June 15.

David was nominated for the prestigious role by his wife after she saw the number of people who approached him in the street to thank him, and colleagues, for the work they have done in helping people.

And David is also involved in Rothbury’s Scout Group, and previously Alnwick’s Scout group, as well as being an Alnwick Harrier.

“It’s really exciting and it is great to be recognised for the work I and my colleagues do,” he said.

“Community nurses do over and above what we have to and we really enjoy our job.

“It is a great opportunity to be part of the Olympics, it is amazing. I’m very excited about it and a little bit nervous just in case I blow out the torch!”
