A DEDICATED Whittingham man has scooped a Merit Award for 25 years’ service in Scouting.

Clive Gray, of 1st Whittingham BP Scout Group, received the accolade at the Northumbria Area St George’s Day event.

He has also recently been appointed as HQ Commissioner for Rover Scouts for the UK.

After a career as an officer in the Royal Marines, Clive has used his outdoor skills and qualifications to both train other leaders and lead expeditions, including a recent escapade taking Senior Scouts snow-holing in the Cairngorms as well as taking Cubs and Scouts climbing at Corby Crag to enjoy last week’s sunshine.

His task as HQ Commissioner for Rover Scouts – which is Scouting for adults – is to put the adventure that young people get out of Scouting back into adult lives.

1st Whittingham’s Rover Crew meet every couple of weeks to do activities such as walking, climbing and canoeing and also enjoy weekend trips like ice climbing, wild camping or kayaking.
