Quarry death man named

A MAN who died in an accident at Longhoughton quarry has been named.

David Hume, 58, of Chapel Lands, Alnwick, died when the excavator machine he was driving went into a hole which filled with water just after 2pm on Saturday.

He was brought out and paramedics treated him at the scene.

He was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital by RAF Boulmer where he was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

Police and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed and inquiries are under way.
