Project to improve River Aln underway

The Northumberland Rivers Trust is leading a project on the River Aln and its tributaries in order

to improve water quality, as assessed under the Water Framework Directive.

Working with farmers and landowners who are within the River Aln catchment, the project’s aim is to reduce rural diffuse pollution in the rivers and streams, with a main focus on nutrients and sediments.

And organisers are still looking for interested farmers to get involved in the last few months of the project.

Ella Vogel, Northumberland Rivers Trust project officer, said: “We pride ourselves on being able to offer workable solutions that reach our goal of improving water quality, but that also fit well alongside farming practices and don’t compromise the use of productive land.”

Interested farmers or landowners who work alongside the Aln or any of its tributaries should contact ella.vogel@northum
