A POSTMAN from Amble has appeared in court charged with stealing 39 parcels and delaying, damaging or destroying hundreds of others.

Andrew Taylor, 30, of Leslie Drive pleaded not guilty to theft of a mail bag or postal packet, said to have been committed between May 2009 and January 2011, in which he took an Amazon Kindle, a DVD box-set and a CD.

He is also accused of intentionally delaying 482 items of post between April 2009 and January of this year, criminally damaging 11 parcels to a value unknown in December 2009 and attempting to damage 806 door-to-door postal packets in January.

Taylor will stand trial at South East Northumberland Magistrates Court on June 30.
