Residents got the chance to look at plans for an extension to Cragmill Quarry in Belford last week.
As reported in the Gazette last month, CEMEX wants to expand the 17-hectare site as less than six year’s permitted mineral extraction remains.
CEMEX senior area geologist Linzi McDade said that the overall comments were very positive during the exhibition at the Blue Bell Hotel last Wednesday.
“Belford seems to be a close-knit community and with three employees in the quarry living within the village it is seen as a good employer,” she said.
“It was also encouraging to have many of the parish council attending with a list of questions from those in the community who were not able to attend.”
She added that there were also lots of good ideas for public access and recreation for the restoration of the site to a water body with sloped banks and trees.
