Cheeky thieves replaced the wheels on a quad bike before stealing it.

The green Yamaha Camo ATV four-wheel drive 450 Grizzly was stolen overnight from a shed near Rothbury.

The quad had been in an outhouse for repair and the thieves replaced the tyres that had been taken off.

Police are urging people to contact them immediately if they see any vehicles or anyone acting suspiciously in and around their property, making a note of the registration number, make and model and possible direction of travel.

They are warning farmers that thieves are taking advantage of the busy harvesting period and are reminding them to ensure that keys for personal vehicles, agricultural machinery, vehicles and quads are kept securely away from the vehicle and out of sight – even for a short period of time.
