Police in Amble are urging cyclists to put the brakes on opportunist thieves by following crime prevention advice.

It comes following two thefts this week in Amble – one in Dolphin Court the other in Scott Street.

The advice comes as Operation Soundwave continues – the Northumbria Police campaign aiming to turn up the volume on crime and silence opportunist criminals.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott said: “Bike thieves are often opportunist, so it’s important other security methods are used such as locks and not leaving it unattended.

“By taking simple steps to ensure your bike is safe and secure you can reduce your risk of falling victim to thieves.

“I’d urge any bike owners who have missed out on any of our bike marking events to contact us and arrange another time to have theirs marked another time by us.”
