Police appeal after Northumberland crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the A697 three miles north of Powburn Village in Northumberland.

It happened at 8.09pm on Thursday, December 29. It involved a single vehicle, a Ford Fiesta which was travelling north, when for reasons yet to be established, the vehicle left the road and collided with a tree.

Emergency services attended and the driver, a 30-year-old man the single occupant of the car was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where he is being treated for serious injuries. His condition is described as critical but stable.

The road was closed for approximately four hours in order for the scene of the collision to be investigated.
