Residents are being encouraged to support a late-night Christmas shopping initiative in Alnwick, following a ‘disappointing’ few weeks.
Since October 30, stores throughout the town have been extending their hours until 8pm on Thursdays, as part of the festive build up.
However, Karen Scrimshaw, who was behind the late-night initiative, said that the response from the public has been somewhat muted during the initial few weeks.
But, with the scheme running for another three Thursdays, up to and including December 18, she hopes things will pick up.
And she has urged residents to come out and support the local traders in the run-up to Christmas.
Karen, of Narrowgate-based Marilyn and Melrose, said: “It has been disappointing so far and it pretty soul-destroying when you stay open until 8pm, but not one person comes into your shop.
“Without support, the local shops will disappear.
“There is some fantastic things to buy in the town and the local shops offer great customer service.
“I hope things pick up. I hope that people don’t just go out of town without investigating what is already here.”
