Planning decisions: Swarland, Acklington and Fenham

Members voted unanimously to defer a decision on a residential development of six detached houses on land south of Percy Drive in Swarland, as they had serious concerns related to flooding and sewerage.

Coun Trevor Thorne also proposed requesting the developers to improve Percy Drive.

• The committee gave the nod to a scheme for a new house on land north of The Park Equestrian Centre in Swarland, which had sparked objections from neighbours. The debate focused on what constituted an ‘isolated’ house in the countryside, but members approved the scheme by six votes to one.

• Two bids to remove conditions restricting the use of former agricultural buildings were given the go-ahead, as if they were converted now, no planning permission would be required after a change in the law. The two decisions relate to The Hemmel, in Acklington, and Lindisfarne Bay Cottages at Fenham.
