The Highways Agency is planning the following roadworks on the A1 in Northumberland this week.

Morpeth: There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of day-time and night-time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. From today (March 29) to Saturday, April 2, there will be a carriageway closure southbound, taking place between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.

Tritlington: There will be traffic signals in operation north and southbound between 6am and 6pm for construction work. This will take place from Tuesday, March 29, until Wednesday, April 6.

Beal: There will be traffic signals in operation north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place from Friday, April 1, to Wednesday, April 6, between 7pm and 6am. There will also be a 24-hour 40mph speed restriction in place.

Clifton, near Morpeth: There will be a carriageway closure with slip-road closures northbound for improvement work. This will take place until Monday, April 11, between 8pm and 6am.

OTHER ROADWORKS FURTHER AFIELD

In case you are travelling during school-holiday week, here are some roadworks around the area to look out for.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar: There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From today (March 29) to Thursday, March 31, there will be a carriageway closure southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51. The carriageway will then close northbound between junction 50 and Scotch Corner, and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51 from Friday, April 1, to Sunday, April 3. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead: Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 69 and southbound between junctions 69 and 68, taking place from today (March 29) to Friday, April 1. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by early summer 2016.

A1M junction 60 to 61, County Durham: There will be a carriageway closure northbound for resurfacing work. This will take place from today (March 29) to Thursday, March 31, between 8pm and 6am, with a diversion in place.

A66 Cumbrian border: There will be a 24-hour contraflow in operation east and westbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until Friday, April 15.
