Pilgrims attending the July celebration of the Lindisfarne Gospels on Holy Island will receive a specially-designed commemorative token and a DVD commissioned by the Christian churches of the North East.
The united Christian pilgrimage, on July 13, is one of the major events planned to mark this summer’s exhibition in Durham of the original eighth-century book of the Gospels which was made on Holy Island, and is regarded as a priceless icon of Christianity in the North East.
The centrepiece of the day is an Act of Worship beginning at 1pm in the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, which will begin with a procession to welcome the Island’s facsimile of the book into the congregation and follow the theme of the seven ‘I am…’ sayings of Jesus in St John’s Gospel.
Admission is by ticket only. They cost £2.50 and are available from www.holyis landpilgrimage2013.info
