The county council has admitted its lack of consultation on the axing of a north Northumberland bus service was ‘faulty’.
Next Monday’s meeting of Northumberland County Council’s north area committee will hear that 460 people, across two petitions, are opposed to cutting the Saturday 710 service from Kelso to Newcastle, which serves Milfield, Wooler, Powburn, Glanton, Whittingham, Longframlington and Longhorsley.
And a report states: “It is acknowledged that the decision to withdraw the Saturday service without full consultation was faulty and the wording of the letter insensitive in that it implied that the service was non-essential.
“Protests, including the petition, have been received from county councillors, parish councils and local residents. These protests have emphasised the locally-felt need for the service and the significant numbers of passengers using it.”
