'Pure bliss' - Humpback whale and dolphins spotted off Northumberland coast

A weekend of glorious sunshine was made complete by the incredible sighting of a humpback whale swimming near to the Farne Islands.

Andrew Douglas, from Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours, captured the beautiful sight on video and in photos he shared with delighted followers on social media.

Andrew said he saw the whale between 12pm and 4pm on Saturday, February 27, calling the experience ‘four hours of pure bliss.’

A post on the Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours Facebook page said: “It’s hard to think that only a few weeks ago we had easterly gales and snow on the Farne Islands, but today was just amazing.

"Blue skies, calm seas and a humpback whale.”

Meanwhile, walker Jake Dawson in Amble spotted dolphins swimming at the harbour mouth between the lighthouses on Saturday and caught the spectacular sight on video too.
