Pedestrian killed on A1 named

Police have named the man killed on the A1 in north Northumberland on Tuesday night.

He has been identified as Eric Shaw, aged 70 and from the Mablethorpe area of Lincolnshire.

The collision happened on the A1 near to Haggerston at just before 7pm on Tuesday.

Inquiries into the collision are ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses.

Motor patrols Sgt Jason Ryder said: “There were a number of people of who stopped at the incident last night and tried to help and I want to thank them for their assistance.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened and we are still keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision.

“We know that Mr Shaw had travelled on the Arriva X15 bus from Alnwick to Berwick and got off at the Haggerston A1 stop. We want to speak to anyone who was on that bus and who saw anything that could help us with our inquiries.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Mr Shaw at this difficult time.”
