Parish opposes separation of holiday unit and country hall

Plans to separate a holiday unit from a north Northumberland hall has met with opposition from parish councillors.

At Weetwood Hall, near Wooler, applicant Innova Ltd now seeks to separate the holiday unit from the hall due to a potential change in business circumstances, which would result in the sale of the hall, but not the business.

The scheme is recommended for approval at tonight’s meeting as ‘the holiday unit would still be able to contribute to the wider visitor economy of the area and its separation from Weetwood Hall would not have any significant, unacceptable effects on the character and appearance of the site or the wider area’.

But Tillside Parish Council, in response to the original application last June, stated that a restriction should be imposed so that the unit must be owned or operated by the owner of, and in conjunction with, Weetwood Hall.
