Paddy's Day shindig to support little Evie

The Irish evening, which takes place on Friday, March 17, is being hosted in the recently-refurbished Northumberland Hall and the proceeds will go to the Shilbottle youngster’s namesake fund.

The fund has been set up to support the five-year-old’s bone-marrow transplant as the Campbells aim to raise £10,000 to help cover the costs, paying for the likes of travel, accommodation and childcare costs during the process.

The Swansfield Park Primary School pupil was diagnosed with Diamond-Blackfan anaemia (DBA) at the age of eight weeks.

The condition, caused by a failure in the bone marrow and characterised by an inability to produce red blood cells, affects only around 125 people in the UK. It requires intensive therapy and has no known cure.

The St Patrick’s Day event, which starts at 7pm, features arrival canapés, an Irish-inspired three-course meal and a licensed bar.

Two local bands – Alnwicky and The Rooster’s Cat – will provide the main entertainment on the night.

Newly-formed Alnwicky performs a varied and vibrant mix of traditional sounds from Northumberland, Scotland and Ireland, making them the perfect choice for the evening.

The Rooster’s Cat is also a great addition to the event’s entertainment, providing music from the 1930s to the present day, ranging from Led Zeppelin to The Jungle Book, almost guaranteeing guests will get up and dance.
