Work to improve the road surface on a section of the A1 near Alnwick is taking place from now until June 15.
The Highways Agency started resurfacting the A1 southbound between the Denwick and Alnwick South junctions on Tuesday.
Bridge joints, road markings, road studs and traffic monitoring loops will also be replaced. The work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am.
Traffic lights and a convoy will be in place when work is taking place close to the exit slip road at Denwick Interchange. There will also be a a 10mph speed restriction.
The southbound carriageway will be closed and signed diversions in place when work takes place between Denwick Interchange and Alnwick South Interchange. Highways project manager, Shaun Cullumbine, said: “This scheme is designed to improve road safety and prolong life of the road surface.”
